Benito Skinner presents Charli XCX with the Powerhouse Award at Billboard’s Women in Music 2024.

Benito Skinner:
Hello, not a woman! I love it. Hello Billboard Women in Music. I didn’t know I would be the only man presenting tonight, but that said, I feel honored to be the minority. This room feels safe, cozy. I’m also honored to be able to say a few words about my idol, collaborator and close friend Charli XCX. Oh my God. [Applause] Wait, do that again. I love that! Charli, they’re ready!

The recipient of this year’s Powerhouse Award — I love that award. Charli has gifted us with pop classics like “Boom Clap,” “Fancy.” Yes, you know it. And her recent hit “Speed Drive” off the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack. At other moments in her career, she has devoted herself to revolutionizing the future of pop music with projects like ‘Pop 2’ — iconic. Taste. It is no surprise that she’s charted five songs on the Hot 100 — should be more — and five albums on the Billboard 200. In addition to establishing herself as a formidable solo star, she’s also a gifted songwriter who has crafted hits with Selena Gomez, Iggy Azalea, and Will.I.Am, amongst many others.

I first met Charli XCX at a party. She hates partying. After about four drinks, I decided it was finally my chance to introduce myself. Unfortunately, I was so nervous that I went straight into pitching her my TV show and asking her to make music for it. She looked at me, smiled, and said “glam, send me the script, babe.” And that’s my favorite thing about Charli. She is curious and open-minded. Constantly ready for the next new thing even before anyone else is, a true artist and trendsetter. We are so lucky to have her.

YouTube Theater, isn’t this YouTube Theater? Yes YouTube Theater. Let’s take a look at the year’s Powerhouse Award honoree. It’s Charli baby — she knows how much I love saying that. Please welcome Charli XCX to accept her award. Powerhouse!
